Workshop “Climate Change in Kosovo” Concludes with a Call to Protect the Environment, Economy, and Wellbeing

The workshop on “Climate Change in Kosovo,” organized by EC Ma Ndryshe, concluded on Sunday with the acknowledgment that immediate and coordinated action is needed to protect the environment, the economy, and the wellbeing of citizens.
The third day of the workshop was dedicated to the impact of climate change on agriculture—one of the most vulnerable sectors. The speaker, who is also an active farmer, shared personal experiences regarding the challenges faced by agriculture in Kosovo due to unpredictable weather, frequent droughts, and the spread of plant diseases.
The discussion also focused on the impact agriculture itself has on climate change and the need to adapt agricultural practices to mitigate this impact. Various techniques were presented, including water and soil management during cultivation, as well as other innovative methods that contribute to increasing agricultural resilience and reducing its negative environmental effects.
This session emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration between farmers and policymakers to find sustainable and appropriate solutions for this vital sector.
The workshop provided a valuable platform for representatives of central and local institutions, students, media, civil society, and local experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities in addressing climate change in Kosovo.
The recommendations that emerged from this activity include: Strengthening the Legal and Enforcement Framework, Improving Climate Monitoring and Infrastructure, Enhancing Academic and Research Capacities, Transforming Public Spaces and Urban Planning, Supporting Farmers and Ensuring Food Security, Increasing Public Awareness and Participation, Securing Funding and International Cooperation.
The discussions throughout the sessions highlighted both the urgency of climate action in Kosovo and the potential for positive change through collaboration and innovation. With donor support, it is believed that Kosovo can transform its challenges into opportunities, building a greener, fairer, and more resilient society.
